“The Nightmare” by Clare Davidson & Will Thomas Freeman
Taking inspiration from The Tale of Genji, a man and his wife are tormented in the astral realm by a spurned ex lover.
Csilla Toldy will screen two of her award winning short films:
'Here I stand'(2020) commissioned by the Executive Office of Northern Ireland as the public artwork to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Nazi concentration camps.
'To My Dear Idealist' (2022) . A bi-lingual film based on a poem by Lithuanian prodigy Matilda Olkinaite, who was killed by Lithuanian nazis together with her family in 1941. The film won best cinematography at the European Film Union Gala in 2024.
'Dual'
As Sami and Sara sort through the belongings of their recently deceased Syrian grandmother, the two sisters find themselves reckoning with the demons of both their family's past and their culture's present, of the displacement of Middle Eastern people.
How can Sami, as a half English, pregnant, white-passing feminist, reconcile with a heritage she claims ‘kills women for wanting freedom’? How can Sara handle her sister's identity struggles, as she herself both celebrates her culture while trying to break the cycle of inherited trauma?
Dual is a story of two sisters wrestling with their identity in the face of a complicated history - and doing their best to make sure this story ends with them.
